Medical Tourism is a complex activity, comprehending several economic sectors, connecting subjects of a variety of legal status, with all their inherently different characteristics and performances, and involving a diversity of professionals (medical professionals, touristic operators stricto sensu and other related areas).

The concept includes medical tourism and wellness tourism.

2. Some applications of the health tourism concept.

3. The Portuguese legal system does not constitute a barrier to the development of health tourism, but some legislative changes herewith proposed (as for instance the intervention of an independent regulator) may contribute to the strengthening of its evolution.

Medical tourism became a very atractive product, due to the awareness, by public entities and partitularly by the private sector, of the quality of the portuguese medical services and also of the growing quality and demand for our turism infrastructures and services.

Consequently, medical turism is today an important business proposal capable of reaching market share. The only important aspect that is missing is the correct struture of this produt, as well as a correct business plan and is correct implementation.

With the purpose of being a contribute for that correct structuring of these products, we presente a successfully case between Portugal and Angola, where the focus on the clients needs, combined with the right conditions to its fulfillment, as became the key aspect for the right development of these products.
